Mais de 10.000 pequenas e médias empresas no Brasil Migration for the free electricity market in the last semester of 2023, aiming to reduce energy costs and choose cleaner sources of energy, promoting sustainability.
According to data from the National Energy Agency (Aneel), 12,660 consumers have requested the disconnection of their energy distributor and registered for the free market as of December 11, 2023.
This movement, which will intensify in 2024 and represents the largest opening of the free electricity market in Brazilian history, is due to a new regulation launched by the federal government. The regulation, which took effect in September 2022, will allow all companies connected to the high-voltage grid to choose their energy supplier from January 1, 2024.
Maury Garrett, energy commercialization manager at ENGIE Brasil Energia, notes that there is a high demand for information on what this freedom represents and what benefits it brings. Approximately 500 consumer units are migrating their operations to the free market with the company, a movement that is expected to gain momentum in the coming months.
According to Lívia Godoy, product coordinator at ENGIE, the expansion of the free market will reach companies with monthly expenses of at least R$ 9,000, changing the paradigm and allowing them to link energy selection to sustainability.
